Thirty days into the new year and it's been rough. January couldn't be longer, still have one more day until it's February and I'm hoping that a new month will bring more happiness. 2012 doesn't seem like it's my year and it's hard to be positive when everything around me is falling apart. I'm trying to keep my head afloat, but all I want to do is get under the covers and sleep forever. I need a break even though I just came back from New York three weeks ago... just need a break from thinking and working. I'm trying to remember to pray and rely on God, but even that seems so hard sometimes.

a love story based in paris...

At the beginning of the film, the acting felt so unreal. I can't explain it, but it just didn't seem natural then I started to realize that this is what made the entire film that much more real. The black and white is beautiful and romantic, the emotions, the actors, and the AMAZING soundtrack, pull at your heart. Its such a cliche french romance film, or what you would think of one to be like. It's quirky and the ending isn't quite what you would expect. The scenes make me want to wander through the desert in a white flowy chiffon maxi dress with a silk lining and run through the sand with my love. It's so cringeworthy, but once you watch it you see why this movie is for lovers only.

Where Jenna Lyons, creative director for J.Crew works! I love seeing workspaces, especially of those in the 'design' industry. The space is quite different from her home (former home) in Park Slope... if you've ever seen pictures - it's clean, spacious and well organized.

What I assume to be a mood board/inspirational images over looking her desk. The paper filing system looks out of order. The space is too cluttered and messy, but nonetheless it works for Lyons, and has made J.Crew a ton of money... so I guess clutter isn't always bad. Check out the fabric rolls near the window and the fresh flowers on her desk... and Lula magazine!

I believe this images were in NY MAG last year, at least the first one. I've been meaning to post them up for a while but never got around to it so is the last two are your images, please let me know.

This is my decked out chandelier in the dining room. I stuck some gold beaded string, red bows and mini green christmas ornaments to the chandelier and Boom! It's all Christmas-y! You know that scene in Elf where Buddy decks out his father's apartment with snowflakes and a wooden rocking horse, well that's me with my house. So this is just a small taste of the big picture.

I have taken a break from decorating my house for my Christmas dinner and decided to visit my boyfriend in Philadelphia, which only takes two hours by bus from the City. Today is the last day so going to head over to Love park, try a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and go to some museums, etc. Eh. I've come across a horrible allergic reaction to none other than pork. Yepp, I've been allergic to pork for some time now but have managed to escape eating bacon and ham with mild hives... this time I was not so lucky. What a bummmmmmmmmmmmer. My skin sucks! And Benadryl is consistently knocking me out from experiencing Philly. Here's to hoping that by Friday my reaction will be non-existent and I can continue on with my party :)

I went Christmas shopping on Oxford Street today and what a crazy CRAZY experience. If you are from America, you are familiar with Black Friday and every Saturday leading up to Christmas in London is a "Black Friday." They actually close down the street so no cars can get through so there's just thousands of shoppers everywhere jumping on each other. I wasn't expecting it to be like this at all, it was pretty horrible. Nonetheless, I was able to buy everything I needed to and got out of there... only took 6 hours haha :)

I think my fashion obsession has gone to a new level. I was looking at an interior designer's portfolio randomly and without the designer placing a name of whose home this was... I knew exactly which fashionista it belonged to.

Suddenly a room can become art. This photograph of a living room, there's so much juxtaposition. The yellow couch amongst the black and white is so odd, but beautiful and playful. The doll sitting is quite odd considering the expensive and adult-like crystal chandelier. And then you see the zebra skin on top of a completely different type of rug. How magnificent are the high doors, french windows and the detail to ceiling?

This was the beauty.com bag I got to design last Spring! I forgot to post about it and just found the image on my desktop recently. The bag could actually work as a purse since it is pretty big. Beauty.com does designer make-up bag collaborations, working with currently or in the past- Rebecca Minkoff, Lela Rose, Charlotte Ronson, Milly, and a few others.

I think that's what I love about designing, I get to create something in my mind, put it on paper, and in this case- put it through illustrator and send it off. Before you know it, the prototype comes in and then there's boxes of these around the office. It's pretty exciting to see something I've worked on- in the hands of people around me and to know that whoever bought stuff on beauty.com will be using these as well. Such a treat to have done this :)

Kyotofu is located in Hell's Kitchen, which is undoubtably one of my favorite areas. Kyofofu is known for the desserts; Delicate, fused with Asian and Western flavors and techniques, and drizzling with flavor. My friends and I ordered the Kuro Goma Sweet Tofu- black sesame sweet tofu panna cotta, hoji-cha syrup, white sesame tuile; Warm Chocolate Cake with miso mochi- saikyo miso caramel, vanilla bean ice cream, earl grey tuile; Autumn Anmitsu- pear and cranberry hibiscus agar, yude azuki, matcha shiratama, with sorbet. If you didn't understand any of that... you are not alone. At the end of our dessert meal they served the table with the best cupcakes in New York, don't believe me? New York Magazine said so themselves.

In my free time I work for a fashion production company in London, who... produce fashion shows. This past weekend I worked for the Luxury fashion runway show at the Saatchi Gallery and got to dress models in amazing gowns! I got to see some Vera Wang gowns, Monique Lhuillier, Vivienne Westwood, McQueen, Peter Langer, etc. The best part about being so close to these wonderful pieces was seeing the attention to detail and seeing the price tags attached!

Now with the chaos of fashion week being over, I feel like I have a lot of free time.

Last Thursday was my last day at Lela Rose. Crazy to think that I have been an intern there for over a year.... I feel really blessed to have landed my internship with the most amazing designers, fastest sewers and I also earned about 23894 more bullet points to put on my resume. Everything from making a dog bed to showing up at an actresses' hotel room to help with a last minute fitting, every moment has led to an unforgettable experience.

Fashion Night Out 2011 Lela Rose x Bergdorf Goodman

A picture taken with a mobile phone. This is where Stitch usually hangs out in the Lela Rose office.

He was pretty miserable during his first fitting of the flower costume!

Lela had the idea of making Stitch into Jeff Koon's "Puppy." With a ton of glue, flowers from ikea and an itty bitty pink sweater, I was able to create the ultimate bouquet of flowers for Stitch's costume.

I couldn't go to the event because I had to stay in the office since our show was 3 days away! So I found some pictures online, respectively, of cute Stitch and Lela at the event.

He had a hoodie covered with flowers, but I'm assuming he was not happy with it since he is not pictured wearing it here.

Lela on the runway with Stitch! I don't know too much about the event except that it was a designer dog runway extravaganza. Stitch won best in show/most artsy dog or something like that which was really exciting to hear since I had worked very hard sticking those flowers to his sweater. Oh and he nearly bit me the second time I tried to get the sweater on him!

If fashion design for humans doesn't work out for me I guess I can go into dog apparel!

11:00am POST: Woke up early to get to Target by 8am. Crazy Long Island women were running around grabbing everything. I got in at 8:01am and the racks were nearly empty, luckily there were some XS stuff laying around. Grabbed candles, notebooks, blankets, cardigans, and a suitcase spending nearly $600 what a morning!!!! The lady in front of me grabbed EVERYTHING and spent $2,350 holy cow.

I checked the Target website last night and at 3am the site did not have any Missoni... at 7:30am, some things on the website were already sold out and now at all 4 target locations near my home are all sold out of MISSONI (this was at 8:30am when I called every single target).

AHHHHHHH and the website is still down.

The Lela Rose fashion show is tomorrow morning. My last fashion week with Lela Rose! I've been with the company for a little over a year now and have experienced 3 new york fashion weeks (Spring 11, F/W 11, Spring 12) and multiple bridal + 1 resort photo shoot. Ah I cannot wait for the show tomorrow and waking up early, walking up to lincoln center and smelling the morning fog at 7:30am for the last time. This week has been pretty hectic and it actually makes me sad that it will all be over. The chaos that comes with fashion week is an adrenaline rush and I will definitely miss it once I go back to school.

MY HEART! Oh my, talk about a sweet tooth. I am queen of eating all things sweet- before, after, during dinner. I replace meals with snacks consisting of chocolate chips, 10 pounds of sugar, and lotsa BUTTER. I should be on the MTV show, True life: I am addicted to sweets.

After the Club Monaco sample sale which happened to be a few blocks away from Chelsea Market, I decided that I would stop by and try 2 of the top 10 best cookies in NYC; One of them being the "chocolate chip cookie" from Jacques Torres and the other, "everything but the kitchen sink" from Amy's Bread. What a delight! The chocolate chips at Torres ARE HUGE CHUNKS of CHOCOLATE, but from side profile they don't look like chunks. It's very hard to explain. I think it looked cooler than it tasted. Eh, in general I think chocolate chip cookies are hard to master because there is always a place that does it better... the oven in your home.

The cookie from Amy's bread was actually AMAZING. I think it literally is 'everything but the kitchen sink' : chunks of oatmeal, chocolate, nuts, raisins, cranberry... and some other yummy ingredients. I'd say Amy's bread and Levain bakery have the best cookies in NYC. I'm still trying to figure out if Milk bar should be on that list... I thought the cookies were too sweet and kind of oily. But maybe I'll go for another taste test before I make my final call on that one.

My room mates and I decided to pitch in $12 for a boat and row it across the pond in Central Park. Lets just say the stroll around the park was much nicer than actually being in the water. Talk about a work out!

My bf Pearl and I at 230 5th, a rooftop bar/lounge. Brunch is always our thing, almost every Sunday we pick one place with good ratings on yelp.com and head over to try the best dishes. The rooftop had a nice view of the city but their brunch was... pretty bad. Let's just say the next time I go to 230 will be for drinks and not for food.

Pearl moved out of the city last week and my heart is in pieces!!! Best room mate experience when you are living with your best friend and you never get into fights... We do each other's nails, feed each other, we were basically a married couple. MISS YOU!!!!!

I'm currently in Los Angeles, but upon my return to the city I will post more and make a habit of doing so. x

The one thing I love most about my design internship is seeing the collection progress from the starting point: inspiration boards, fabric meetings, new sketchbooks full of designs- to the end: a photo shoot which then gets reviewed and put up on Style.com. While I am not designing the garments myself I do put in a lot of hours sewing hems, hook and eyes, cutting the fabrics, making the patterns, etc. Seeing the final product on a 5'10 model is the most satisfying part!

If I wasn't into florals before, this internship has definitely changed me into a floral loving girl.

Lela never uses florals in the traditional way, even with bridal gowns the design team is always looking for innovative ways to make floral look cool & chic. The internship, which I have been at for over a year has given so much insight and a new way of looking at things. I am really excited to apply everything I have learned at Uni this September.

I live the weekdays for the Sunday brunches with my best friend, Pearl!

Living in/near Hell's kitchen is such a blessing. I love all the cute restaurants in the LES (Lower East Side), but Hell's Kitchen has such a trendy fun vibe. Any place you walk into on 9th Ave will be blasting the same tunes you heard the night before at the club. Everyone is in a good mood... mainly because everyone's indulging in some "Drunk brunch." Nonetheless, when I leave NYC for London at the end of the Summer I will miss these brunches the most.

Wearing my favorite red Costume National platforms with an Asos striped dress. And Pearl in a blue tie-died Forever 21 dress with Kelsey Dagger wedges.

chic decor with fantastic music, everything from gaga to prince... all though those two don't seem so far off. and gorgeous people sitting around drinking their cocktails while the waiters wear pink shirts and float around happily. Oh and there was an outdoor seating area with a beautiful fountain and cool umbrellas!

Next Sunday: going to try this place which was closed after brunch.

I finally bought my ticket back to London. By the end of September I'll be back in the UK- my last year at University!!! It's such a bittersweet feeling. On one hand I can't wait to be back at school, back in East London... but on the other I will miss living in NYC with my best friend. Oh what a year it has been! I feel so blessed to have experienced everything I have in the past year. Thanking God everyday :)

The greatest thing about NYC are the places to eat and drink. For my friend Michelle's birthday we (Pearl and I) took her to SKY in Hell's Kitchen. It's a rooftop bar with a red carpet entrance... which was kind of cheesy, but hey who can say no to the that? The view expands to the hudson river, upper west side of manhattan, chelsea, and to the empire state building. The weirdest thing was the outside deck, it looked like Miami all inclusive with cabanas, palm trees and white EVERYTHING.

The alcohol menu is huge, but what caught my eye was a section called "Fashion Desserts." Drinks and desserts by designers like Nanette Lepore, Rebecca Taylor and Rebecca Minkoff. This place is trendy but too bad the earlier hours are flooded with tourists or men in suits after their work day. Would love to come to this place at night.

I've got about 2 more months in NYC before heading back to London. It's bittersweet. I enjoy living in London- it's NYC but with a chill vibe. People are calmer on the sidewalks and no annoying taxis running people over. At the same time, I've grown to love the maniacs that drive the yellow taxis here. Who woulda thought I could love NYC after all my years of hatred and wanting to move back to Los Angeles... I suppose it's because I was stuck on Long Island.

I can't believe my last post was twenty days ago! You'd think that with so much going on in my life I would be posting more, but that is obviously not the case. My best friend Pearl moved into my apartment in New York City and since then we have pretty much been tearing the city apart.... actually we've been doing that since January, but at least now we can go out together and come home together!

Pearl, Esther and I went downtown to Bisous Ciao, a macaroon parlor where the people actually speak French and the take out bags look like a recent lingerie shop purchase. It is simply cute and irresistible. This is Pearl and I outside of Foley & Corinna (I believe somewhere off of Orchard Street).

After feasting our eyes on macaroons it was time for some AMMMMMAZZZINGG breakfast! Clinton St. Baking is one of the city's best. We went there knowing that 1 hour waits are the usual- when we got there we were asked to wait an hour and half. So we did. We walked around and when we came back they asked us to wait another hour. All in all, we waited THREE HOURS!!!!!! Was it worth the wait? YES.

It's been complete chaos, but good chaos. My internship is still keeping me busy during the week and weekends are for catching up with friends. I also just got offered a job this past weekend and I am so excited!!! Seems like my Summer is going to be full, but as long as there is air conditioning I think I'll be able to survive.

On Sunday I went running in Central Park for about 2 hours and the weather was so beautiful. It's moments like these when I'm running and observing the scenery that I get completely lost. My friend suggested we stop running and lay down on the fields across from Tavern on the Green. While laying down I couldn't help but feeling a rush of grace and gratefulness. Each spring breeze left me breathless. How did I end up living in one of the greatest cities in the world? How am I living in NYC... where did my life turn for this to happen? I never saw myself living in the City, I never saw myself living in London- but NYC was completely out of the question because I always had a hatred for the East Coast (I'm a west coast girl!) But damn, this Sunday changed my mind about NYC. I hate to say it, but I can actually see myself here.

I am really so grateful for this amazing life I've been given and for the people in it who continually support me. I can't say it enough!! Of course there are times when life "sucks," but in the end I have a wonderful family, food on the table, and someone above watching over me.

Check out this video from Bloomberg's Game Changers. It's a side of Anna Wintour you've never seen. A narrative from her first assistant- Laurie Schechter who lost 8 pounds in two weeks, buddy Vera Wang, designer patrick robinson, and others who have watched her climb to the top. It's inspiring to see someone who is so passionate, who can get eggs thrown at her and still have the courage to stand up again. This is a lady who has stepped on and over people to get where she is now... is she really nuclear wintour? or an ice queen, perhaps, but she sure doesn't give a damn about it.

hmm this look is too familiar!

This whole running thing is working out amazingly. I love running! I don't know why I haven't tried it... perhaps because in gym class there was always someone yelling at me to run faster or to stop walking, haha. These days I run about 1-2 miles around the park. Today I ran 2-3 miles, walking home after 30 minutes of non-stop running/jogging. I feel awesome!!! The best part of running is getting caught up in the breeze and the rhythm of my feet stomping the pavement. I wanted to run a mile and a half and instead ran 2 miles up from where I live, meaning I would have to run/walk back 2 miles to come back home. I felt like throwing up, I couldn't breathe and on top of that, it was starting to get dark. I don't carry a phone with me when I run, so I felt stranded with my only option being to hail a cab on 74th street... I didn't. I caught my breath after walking 20 blocks and then running back the last mile.

By the way, this weekend I bought my first pair of real REAL shoes. The kind of shoes with laces that are actually supposed to be tied. The kind of shoes that are so ugly you don't want to be seen in public with them. The kind of shoes that are meant for running. These are the ugliest pair of shoes i haven ever spent money on and I never thought I would ever be the type of person to do such a thing- but i have!

Wren's Spring look book via Refinery29

The color palette is so amazing and perfect for Spring.

The cobalt blue shorts are #1 on my to- buy list.

Wren's mix of vibrant colors and thoughtful play with prints is exciting as it is wearable. It's chic and casual and nothing looks forced. Uptown girl blazers and expensive fabrics meets bohemian downtown girl with funkadelic silhouettes and sunglasses! The oxfords make her look like she stepped out of a plane from London and the hats are so Parisian. Eat your heart out Spring... this collection is too good to wear just for one season.

I've taken up running!!... I'm not sure how long this will last, but I ran around the city for an hour and thoroughly enjoyed it. Of course there was one incident where I almost died on 5th Ave. because a truck driver was too busy texting!! I yelled... and then truly felt like I was a New Yorker haha.

Some things I realized while on my run:

1. Central park is actually as scary as it looks on those episodes of Law and Order: SVU.

I definitely will not be running there at night again....

2. Men are dirtbags. Why can't a woman just run?

3. There is a Hooters on 57th Street and the smell is enough to make me stop running.

I am going back there to eat next week.

4. I have a weak heart... trouble breathing and I am a horrible runner.

And then I thought about that episode of Friends, "The One Where Phoebe Runs," and I just didn't even care what I looked like.

5. I need to keep up with running because I just felt so great afterwards! I sweated profusely, ran up some hills and stairs all while listening to The Strokes. Kudos to me!

Alright now I'm going to bake a chocolate cake with my room mates :)

I enjoy finding new artists to follow.

I look at these photographs and imagine a man in an air conditioned room hovering over a table or wall gluing pieces into place. Putting things down and then deciding it doesn't look good there or here, removing it and later putting it two rows down from where it was before. The work is so intricate, it drives me crazy.

This morning I was walking down Seventh avenue, sun shining on my MJ sunglasses, the latest Snoop Dogg blasting through my ears, and not having tripped on a pothole had me feeling good. I don't know if it was the weather, the banana I was devouring, or the fact that I hadn't tripped yet, but I just felt so grateful for my life. You know that saying, "live everyday to its fullest"? I believe I have. Looking at the past 21 years... I've accomplished so much, experienced a hell of a lot, and couldn't ask for a more beautiful life. Who would have thought that the little korean girl living on Amie* avenue (Southern California) reading Winnie the Pooh would end up going to university in London and ultimately living in NYC? At some point I envisioned my future, but I had no idea I would be where I am... where I am! I've done everything in life that I have wanted to and even surpassed my own expectations and this is all in thanks to my family. Not only have they been there to support me financially, but most importantly they have been there for me mentally (especially my cousins). I am so grateful for the most amazing family, to whom I owe my life; to have goals and dreams because of them, and achieving everything with them! When you look back at the years, are you proud of them? Can you say that you've lived each day/month/year? Of course there have been ups and downs in my life, but damn the ups are goooood :)

CHIC skater girl... downtown cool and an earthy edginess is what I got out of Stacy Igel's collection for her label, BOY MEETS GIRL. Last week I was invited to the runway show and saw some great cropped and layered looks worn by models that happily strutted down the catwalk to great upbeat tunes. The show was definitely not dissapointing and the celebrities in attendance were surprising! Some housewives from NY and NJ were sitting front row along with Adrienne Bailon, the Veronicas and Kat DeLuna.

I brought along my best friend, Pearl (wearing the purple ombre ruffle dress) who also works within the fashion industry so we could cover the event together. She is obsessed with Miss J (pictured below).

We tried on some looks from Polaroid Eyewear and got photographed by the NY Post.

LAB SHINE has some amazing colors for lips, I snagged a coral lip gloss and it is by far one of the best products I have in my make-up bag now. First of all, it smells amazing... and second the color is amazing. It lasts forever without getting sticky or heavy as some other lip glosses do. I can't wait to try out their black diamond color.

I've been working as an intern for 7-8 months at LR and everyday is an adventure. I can't believe how much I have learned and been through. I am definitely learning more there than at school. This morning defined the chaos of fashion week. I had to haul ass to the subway station at 7:30am, when I realized the train was taking forever.. so I ran outside hailed a cab and made my way up to lincoln center. The seamstress and I had to go to a celebrity's hotel room to re-sew her dress ASAP. It took us about 2 hours- and left us with 50 minutes to make it back to Lincoln Center before the show. HECTIC. Got a cab, made it back and hung out backstage until the show started. What a beautiful collection! I love the feeling of fashion week, working backstage and watching the models prance around in beautiful clothes.... I always get the chills! What an exhausting and exciting day- and tomorrow it all starts over again, back to nothing, preparing for the resort collection!

Officially living in New York City, midtown to be exact.

Going back to Long Island after a long day of work was getting to tiring + fighting for seats with men in suits sucked, so I moved out and into the city that never sleeps. I love it.

Not only do I get to sleep in 2 hours more before departing for work, but I also don't have a curfew.

This week at work has been really interesting. I got to sit at the designer's table and listen to tracks that they received by the DJ for the fashion show. Music is so important, it completely sets the tone for the show and the looks coming down the runway. Who knew that music could be "springy," "dark and fall like," "too pink," and so forth. Everyone just sat around staring into space- I myself began to look into the whiteness of the walls and imagine the dresses and coats walking down the runway and if the music that was playing didn't match the look, I instantly lost vision. When the songs would match the mood of the collection we would all stare at each other and give a nod. I remember in the Marc Jacobs documentary they said there are always moments of meditation and awkward moments of sitting and thinking around a conference table... and picking the music for the show was just that, awkward silence- sitting and meditation. In the chaos that is fashion, I think these moments are ironic.

PS and Givenchy Pre-Fall 2011

They are two very different collections- one is ground "breakingly" cool with a surfer chic attitude attached to its' bold colors and prints.... while the other, being Givenchy (obviously) is muted with neutrals, ruffles and lovely layers. Is it strange that I am evenly attracted to both collections?

Phoebe Philo for Celine was an amazing collection (check style.com). It definitely seemed different from what she usually does. In fact while I was looking at TSE's collection, I felt like Phoebe was the designer there.

P.S. I'm seeing low waisted skirts and pants coming back.

Something else I saw were these cute oversized blazers and coats with details on the collars (check out Preen below and for more check Celine PF2011). Just that hint of bright yellow changes the mood and the type of person that would purchase this.

So today was my first day off of work in a long time (excluding winter break). I planned on running some errands and pampering myself, but of course.. IT SNOWED like 15 inches. I am definitely not looking forward to heading to work tomorrow in boots. Treading through Manhattan is going to suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. But at least it's Thursday.

"The Waiting" 2006

A couple years ago my cousin Tommy sent me photos of Loretta Lux's work. Since then I have been haunted by her dream like portraits. Children are almost always her subjects; She begins by taking a photograph, (traditional), until she places the photograph onto the computer. She then strips the photo of its' background and creates her own. I came across an article in Time Magazine where Lux says children "...have no reservations," "they are the most honest models" (2008). The article also touches on the idea of Lux using metaphors for childhood in her work. I see her art as capturing the innocence of her subjects while adding an eeriness that confuses me, keeping me intrigued.

I love Massimo Dutti's Holiday 2010 lookbook... the looks are exquisite. The layering is a stylist's dream. I'm glad to see tailored looks are making a come back after years of grungy, d.i.y looks.

2010 has been a hell of a year.

So excited for 2011, I'm 21... working in NYC, single and ready to use what I've learned about myself in the past year to become a better ME. For the first time in a while, I feel content with where I am in life right now. I'm surrounded by only the best family and friends, feeling inspired again to design and determined to prepare myself for my final year and ready to return to my internship and prove that I have what it takes to make it in the industry. It's going to be a good year :)
